Aly "Alisco" Diabate
Aly “Alisco” Diabate was born in Conakry, Guinea, West Africa. Aly comes from a Djeli family. In West African culture, Djeli are the keepers of history, storytellers, musicians, and praise singers reminding people of their ancestors' powerful past in order to inspire those living in the present.
Aly is a master dundun and sangban player. He has toured internationally and played with Les Ballets Africains, Les Merveilles d'Afrique & Ballets Soleil. He immigrated to the United States in 1995 with the award winning Les Ballets Merveilles under the directorship of Kemoko Sano, renowned Les Ballets Africains Choreographer and Artistic Director.
Aly also has had nine years of experience teaching drumming to children at schools and camps in many cities, including New York, Burlington, New Haven, Chicago, Fort Wayne, and several California cities during the Common Vision annual Fruit Tree Tour in 2009. Aly continues to travel throughout the United States and Canada performing, teaching workshops and master classes.
